“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
(Revelation 4:11)
God created us for His pleasure! Imagine the joy He feels when we operate at the full potential He created us for!
As a parent I am excited when my children excel. How much more God, when we His children exhibit the creative abilities He placed within us and excel in our various callings, giftings and abilities?
I believe God smiles when we operate in the grace given to us in different vocations to give Him glory. Reflecting on my life and the moments that have brought me pleasure and I realise that whether in good or bad times that which gives me pleasure is what I was created for, what comes naturally and by divine inspiration.
The movie Chariots of Fire depicts the true life story of two athletes in the 1924 Olympics, one of them was Eric Liddel, a devout Scottish Christian, born to missionary parents. In one of the scenes when challenged about whether he was wasting his time on the track when he should be doing missionary work, he said,”I believe God made me for a purpose. But He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure”.
I’ve always loved that phrase! He was saying that God’s purpose for his life included every capability inside of him and if God made him fast then why not bring Him glory through what He had graced him to do?
Eric Liddel went on to win gold in the 400m race that year, a win that he attributed to God’s grace.
I feel God’s pleasure when I write, when I share words from His heart, when I lead, mentor, counsel, and in every creative enterprise I engage in! What about you?
Think about it today…what do you have in your hands? What purpose are you living for? Wherever you find yourself, whatever you have been endowed with, let it bring honour and glory to God who created you for His good pleasure.
Pursue with passion that which will delight the Father’s heart!
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
