Kind of Naked
I had just taken a shower and was wrapped in my towel sitting at my desk trying to check if a mail I was expecting had dropped. (WFH syndrome)
Joel came barging into my room and blurted out, “Mummy why are you naked?”
“But I am not naked” I responded “But you are kind of naked” he quipped back. Well… I had to admit that I was kind of naked innit? That towel could slip and leave me vulnerable! Joel and his smart mouth!
This reminded me of the story titled “The Emperor’s New Clothes” written by Hans Christian Anderson. It tells the tale of a vain emperor who is tricked into parading himself naked to his subjects and how it took a little boy to expose the truth about the proud Emperor’s naked status! My Joel would definitely have been that smart little boy! 😄😄😄
Obviously if I was going out I would choose to be fully clothed because with the towel I would be virtually naked.
Joel’s words kept ringing in my head and I kept smiling coming back to this incident. I kept asking the Lord what He wanted to teach me. Then later in the day the scripture that came to mind was Revelation 3:14- captioned the lukewarm church.
““To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”
Revelation 3:17-18 NKJV
That hits hard!
Jesus was rebuking the people of this church for their lukewarmness. He said I prefer if you are hot or cold not dancing in between!
You know how it feels when you need a hot drink and you go to the dispenser to fill up your cup or flask, take a sip and it’s lukewarm! You just want to spew it out don’t you? Same is true when you are dying for a chilled drink and what you get falls short. In the same way Jesus said because you can’t make up your mind to be hot or cold I will spew you out from my mouth! May that not be our portion!
May our hearts be on fire for the Lord always! May we not play when we should be praying or dabble in worldly stuff when we should be living by His Word!
Serious words here! Jesus says if we come to a place in our lives when we think we have it all and don’t need Him, we are lost!
We think we are clothed (like I thought I was), perhaps we cover ourselves with religious practices but in the eyes of God, spiritually, we are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked!
Are you clothed in the righteousness of God? Or are you clothed in a false sense of religion while your heart is far from God? God wants us ‘all in’. He wants our total attention, focus and dedication. He is a jealous God and will share His glory with no other. Who is on the Lord’s side today? Don’t be kind of hot! Be hot! Let’s be on fire for Jesus! He wants all or nothing! What will your choice be?
