Go Be a Champion!

My son was having challenges completing a task one day, so I asked him, “what did Mummy tell you when you were going to school”?

His response was “Go be a champion”. I smiled.

From then on, we started a daily morning sign off before he left for school with three simple statements.

“Go be a champion”

“Never give up”

“Shine for Jesus” (sometimes he added on “and shine for Mummy and Daddy”).

Anytime he didn’t want to do his homework or was not in the mood for school, I would remind him of these statements.

One morning, I was preparing to go to the office, and it was just one of those days that there was so much on my plate. My mind was racing ahead of me to resolve a myriad of issues that had to be addressed both on the job and in my personal life.

As I picked up my bag to leave the house, my son came running down the stairs and said to me; “Mummy remember, “go be a champion, never give up and shine for Jesus”. “Thank you, Joel”, I said, as my eyes moistened. Wow! I thought! Here I was, big, strong Mama. I thought I was teaching him to be strong every day but in an interesting twist God used my little boy to remind me that I had to shake off the weariness and go be awesome myself! His words reminded me to set my gaze in the right direction and focus on being my best and giving my best. And yes, I did! 😊

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings God has ordained strength!

This little incident reminded me how often children throw back at us what we pour into them, intentionally or unintentionally.

May the Lord grant us grace to pour all that is godly, good and great into their precious lives! There are so many times this little boy has echoed back my words to me in a way that leaves me with an open mouth! As parents may God give us wisdom to guide our children in His truth, we’ll be surprised at how they will dish back that truth to us in a time when we need to hear it most! 😊

And if you are reading this and are going through a tough point in your life, just remember God always has the final say. Trust him with your life. Just go be a champion, never give up and keep shining for Jesus!

“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.”

(Psalm 8:2)
