No Sandwich For Lunch!

Standing at the sea shore today, I recalled the story of Israel and their encounter at the Red Sea.

How do you move forward when the Red Sea is before you and Pharaoh and his army are behind you?

Where do you run to when life hits you from behind and before?

David said; ““From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

Psalms 61:2

As a warrior who had been in battle and a fugitive pursued by Saul, David knew what it meant to live in rugged terrain. It was common for soldiers to find refuge among rocks and caves and here David alludes to this practice, asking God to secure him in a rock where he would be safe. Indeed he was seeking God to be that safe place of shelter when his heart was overwhelmed.

That is a posture we all need; Christ is our Rock, in times of crisis He is the one we can tun to. When we run to Him, when we seek Him through His Word, we see our trials from His perspective. From that vantage point we can look at our lives and see God’s hand at work through it all.

When the Israelites had finally left Egypt, they journeyed on in anticipation of a smooth road to Canaan. However, just when they were reveling in their freedom, they heard the noise of Pharaoh’s army in pursuit of them and fear filled their hearts. They were in despair! “Eh! Is this how the story ends? We flee Egypt only to face death in the desert?”

Caught between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea, it was obvious that they were sandwiched and ready to be served for Pharaoh’s lunch!

They cried out in despair, Moses cried out to God! God’s response? Hey Moses, raise your staff, I didn’t bring you people out to serve you as sandwich for lunch!

In the midst of the impending danger, Jehovah arose to their defense! They crossed the Red Sea on dry ground! They watched as the Egyptians God had promised they would see no more were swallowed up by the sea! Talk about tables turning! God always defends His people and even where He allows hardship, we can be sure His deliverance is assured and His glory will be revealed through it all!

Remember Daniel in the Lions’ den? The three Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace? What about Haman’s plot against the Jews? The Bible has so many stories to share for our encouragement and I believe there are real life experiences we all have had of God showing up when it looked like it was over! Can I get a witness?😊

Child of God sometimes it might look like everything is against you, you are at your wits end and there is no help but let me assure you, it isn’t over! God is still in control! Advance by faith! God has you covered! Just when the enemy thinks he will devour you, God will scatter his plans.

“When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.”

Psalms 27:2

Tell yourself; “I am no meat for the devil’s sandwich! I am not a sitting duck waiting to be swallowed up! What threatens to swallow me will be swallowed up! I am covered and protected by Jehovah! He will turn every attack into a story of triumph!”

““Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.””

Psalms 91:14-16
